K-I-C Start School Contest
KINDERGARTEN TO SIX
To enter the K-I-C Start school contest for grades k-6, students must explain why saving energy is important and demonstrate what they can do to conserve. Entries should be a classroom effort. Individual classes must design an entry that is creative, informative and fun. A class can film a short video, write a book, record a song, design a poster or create an entry using another creative medium.
Deadline to Enter: February 2, 2024 by 4:00 PM

Prizes
There will be two Grand Prizes of Chapters gift cards valued at $2500 and three Second Prizes of Chapters gift cards valued at $1500 for each of the Sponsors’ service territories. (The “Sponsors” are Newfoundland Power Inc. and Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro.)
Eligibility
- The contest is open to all grades k-6 classes in Newfoundland and Labrador
- Each class may enter only once
- Via the online submission form or mail to the school’s electricity service provider
- Entries must be submitted by the teacher to the school’s electricity service provider (see contact information below)
- Please include the school name and location, along with the teacher’s name, grade level and the number of students in the class
- Video submissions should be a maximum of 5 minutes in length and uploaded to YouTube to share via web link. See instructions on how to make a YouTube video unlisted.
Criteria For Judging
- Appearance and creativity
- Accuracy of the message
- Effectiveness (interesting and appealing to the audience)
