Energy Efficiency Is Staying for Good at Shallow Bay Motel and Cabins

Shallow Bay Motel and Cabins partnered with takeCHARGE that resulted in 50 MWh of energy savings and a takeCHARGE rebate of $5000.

The Shallow Bay Hotel and Cabins has been an active participant in the Business Efficiency Program. In 2019, they completed a large project where they replaced the electric baseboard heaters in the guest rooms with heat pumps. This project has several benefits including energy savings and improving guest comfort. Previously the rooms had a baseboard heater with a window air conditioning unit with each being controlled individually. Now the rooms are heated and cooled by the heat pump controlled by a single thermostat. This project resulted in over 50 MWh of energy savings. In addition to this project, in 2017 Shallow Bay Motel and Cabins installed LED exit signs, LED screw-in bulbs and occupancy sensors to improve the lighting at the motel. They also have installed a Level 2 electric vehicle charger which attracts electric Vehicle owners traveling to Gros Morne National Park area.

“Shallow Bay Motel are always looking for ways to improve their efficiency and look forward to further participation in the Business Efficiency Program” says Darryl House, owner Shallow Bay Motel and Cabins.
