takeCHARGE Recognized with Eighth and Ninth ENERGY STAR CANADA AWARDS

Each year, ENERGY STAR® Canada recognizes businesses and organizations for their outstanding contributions to saving energy. The awards recognize utilities, manufacturers, retailers, associations, homebuilders, and buildings that have demonstrated excellence in offering Canadian consumers the most energy-efficient products and technology available. Award winners earn the special recognition of being the best in their class.

Natural Resources Canada selected takeCHARGE, a joint partnership between Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro), as the Promotional Campaign of the Year and Sustained Excellence awards winner That’s nine ENERGY STAR Awards in the past five years for takeCHARGE.

Key 2023 accomplishments include:

  • Providing rebates to customers on approximately 82,000 ENERGY STAR certified products in 2022. These products provided customers with over 4,291 MWh of savings annually, enough energy to power over 1,400 Electric Vehicles (“EVs”) for one year!
  • Donated approximately 24,000 ENERGY STAR certified LED bulbs to 60 partners, including non-profit organizations, and charities across the province through the Make the Switch LED giveaway.
  • Provided outreach and education on energy-efficient products through the Isolated Direct Install Program to home and business owners in remote diesel-system communities across the province. 1,169 ENERGY STAR certified light bulbs were installed in homes and businesses in three communities.
  • Through the Energy Savers Kit program, takeCHARGE distributed 2,547 Energy Savers kits to income-qualified customers across the province. This represents 7,641 ENERGY STAR LED lightbulbs and over 2,104 MWh of annual savings.

    takeCHARGE is a joint initiative between Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro that combines the expertise and customer reach of Newfoundland and Labrador’s two electricity utilities. The takeCHARGE partnership works to bring energy efficiency awareness and rebate programs to everyone in Newfoundland and Labrador.
